This DVD Has All The Classic Car Ads
Of The 1940s – Chevrolet Ads! Oldsmobile Ads!
Great American Cars And Great Classic Television!

Watch The Artistry Of Some Of The Best Advertising
Agents Ever – Including The Legendary Jam Handy!

This DVD depicts classic advertisement films and examples of automobile centric stories. It includes classic "Capitalistic Realist" dramas showing the manufacture of cars from foundry to finished vehicle. Also features examples of a day in the life of automobile workers in the U.S. while attempting to convince them that their own fortunes were inexorably linked to the fortunes of the company.

Included here among others you will find a theatrical screen advertisement for one of the last pre World War II automobiles emphasizing Oldsmobile’s adaptability under wartime conditions and a series of theatrical commercials hawking the "B-44" line of "handsomer, huskier, heavier" Oldsmobiles.

A few of those films were designed to promote corporate citizenship rather than any specific model of automobile. While it forcefully demonstrates how central automobile manufacturing was to the American economy it even more strikingly shows the effects of the automobile on our landscape.

Experience The Magic Of Master Film Maker Jam Handy!

As any serious student of advertising or film knows, Jam Handy was one of the great masters of cinematic advertising. On this DVD you will see a nearly endless stream of some of Jam Handy’s greatest work. Compare these classic films to the average car ad today. You will be amazed at Jam Handy’s genius!

"I used to be a film student, so I was very curious when I saw that you guys had some of the original Jam Handy shorts. I’m glad I ordered these DVDs. The film quality is incredible!"
- Bart Calendar, New York, NY (

Marketing History Being Made In Your Home!

The 1940s were truly a period of transition for American and its economy. We were coming out of the Great Depression, but spent the early years fighting World War II. Then when the war ended it brought with it a huge burst of prosperity and consumerism.

Advertising agencies were quick to compete for the sudden surge in disposable income. While in the 30s most moving picture ads were shown in movie theatres, the 40s brought the wonder of television into many people’s homes. Advertisers had to react and change their plans to adapt to this new medium!

Of course the best product for them to sell was the American car – as patriotic Americans sprinted to own these Detroit wonders.

What Could Be More American Than Television, Oldsmobiles And Advertising!

This DVD has everything you could want if you love cars, television or advertising.
What could be more American than that!

The first films on this DVD are from 1941. Then for seven long years war raged in Europe and the Far East. No new cars were produced! Flash forward to 1948 and new cars came into production – along with new technology! You will see how the cars of the 1930s and early 1940s were transformed into the modern machines we know today!

"This is the place to get your DVDs. You can’t ask for more! Extremely Professional, Extremely Reliable and Extremely Fast. A++" Thanks,
- Derrick Evans -- Tampa, FL

This DVD Set Is A Great Visual Reference
And Study Guide For Anybody
Interested In Classic Cars Or Classic Commercials!

Inside you will find hours of entertaining footage shot by some of the best production teams of the era. Because television was in its infancy, directors and writers from the best movie studios were brought in to create this incredible advertising landscape! Here is a complete list of what you will find on this incredible DVD!

The Girl on the Magazine Cover
This film shows how automobiles were photographed to look as beautiful as possible. This film features a VERY tongue in cheek narrator popping into a studio to find out how they make "those dames" look so good. To do this, we meet quite possibly the funniest character ever introduced in a Jam Handy film. This VERY disgusted photographer grudgingly lets us take a tour while he photographs his latest model, but the narrator’s camera always seems to get in the way!

Defense Comes First With Oldsmobile
This is a movie advertisement for one of the last pre-World War II Oldsmobiles. With war on the horizon the advertisers emphasize Oldsmobile’s adaptability under extreme conditions. The shadow of war is present throughout the film.

Oldsmobile Presents The Handsome Husky B-44
These theatrical screen ads hawk the "B-44" line of "handsomer, huskier, heavier" Oldsmobiles. Jam Handy provides good, pompous narration and scary low-angle shots of the last prewar road behemoths. These "’big, broad shouldered commanding" tanks would be considered gas guzzlers today!

Classic Television Commercials
This incredible DVD features dozens of television commercials from 1948 covering nearly every make and model of American car! These commercials at first resemble their theatrical relatives but very quickly become similar to the flashy car ads we see today!

Olds Minute Movies
For seven years – from 1941 to 1948 – no new cars hit the market. All of the factories were needed for the war effort! Then in 1948 Oldsmobile went back into production and created the Oldsmobile Futuramic. Even back then, marketing departments were inventing new we’re over-run by them. This one was pretty prescient, though, considering the next decade’s obsession with Futurism in everything. The ads are fairly convincing, and you’ve got to admit, this car has everything!

It’s amazing how several of the automobile advertisements from the post war era - preserved with great care by on this absorbing DVD - seem relevant even toady. Although automobiles have undergone a great deal of transformation – both technical and aesthetic – the men behind the advertisement seem to have remained untouched by these changes. While some of the clips have refreshingly vintage look, others seem fairly contemporary.

As a historical record of post-war automobile advertising, these clips are invaluable, and more so because of the name that appears in the producers slot -Jam Handy of course! Handy’s penchant for detail and his ability to assess the manufacturer’s requirements and translate these onto eye-catching visuals is what made him one of the most sought after producers in the 40s and 50s.

Bewitching, alluring and technically watertight, these clips offer a delightful peek into the post-war era, when Americans were dreaming dreams of a better tomorrow, realizing their true potential and living their dreams.

It is difficult for me to think of an America without baseball, even tougher to imagine our country without the statue of liberty, but it is impossible for me to envisage an America without the automobile, which even today signifies wealth and prosperity to most Americans.

Travel back in time to the vibrant 40s and 50s when The United States was on a buying spree – houses, washing machines, deep freezers – and Automobiles! I am quite certain that this is the DVD that many history and advertising buffs had been waiting for and if you are one among them, make sure you order your copy today!
