Hollywood's Moulin Rouge cafe is the setting for this musical. Starring Margaret Whiting, the movie has some great songs to look forward to. Here is a complete review of the film included in this incredible DVD.

It presents nearly all of a musical show at an expensive nightclub restaurant in Hollywood in 1955. The film's plot is constructed around a single evening's performance at Hollywood's Moulin Rouge. Forrest Tucker plays a thread bare entrepreneur, Dan Bradley, who wants to open up his own dinner theatre. His "angel" is Lloyd Corrigan, ostensibly an eccentric millionaire but actually merely eccentric, who loves splurging on his staff.

While work is in full swing, the showman Bradley proposes marriage to his girlfriend and the shows set designer, Ruth Harmon (Martha Hyer), who warns him that if the shows star Margaret Walton (Margaret Whiting) finds out about them, she will not think twice about walking off. Incidentally Margaret is deeply inlove with Dan, and has only accepted the show as for him.

Dan realizes he is in deep trouble when he finds out that his eccentric millionaire is nothing more than a delusional gardener with dream of grandeur. The only way he can save himself from the hefty bills that have been piled up is to ensure that his show is a hit and will run for a few months. To make matters worse he reminds his lady-love about how much he feels for her, which Margaret over hears by mistake. Without hesitating she has a showdown with Dan, accusing him of leading her on, and as expected walks out of the show while it is going on. With no financial backing and his leading lady out of the show Dan knows nothing short of a miracle can only get him out of this soup.

Running Time: 72 Minutes
MPAA Ratings: PG

Known as a five-day wonder, director Leslie Goodwins actually wrapped up shooting this movie in five days. Forrest Tucker was an American actor in both movies and television from the 1940's to the 1980's. He served in theUnited States Cavalry and then performed in burlesque theater. While on vacation in California in 1940, he began auditioning for movie roles. He was a master character actor;best suited for westerns but flexible enough for any type role. He was a tall, stocky, burly looking man with blonde wavy hair, a lived-in face with carved features, a prominent jaw and a gruff, rugged voice. While his co-star Margaret Whiting was adominant pop singer in the '40s and '50s, though whether she's a jazz vocalist is often in question. She had a clear, striking voice and the kind of quasi-innocent sensibility

"Fresh from Paris" was made at The Moulin Rouge in Hollywood and took place totally inside that nightclub, which by that time (1956) was well past its glory days. The movie is so stupid and the "production numbers" so bad, it might be worth seeing it just to get depressed. It was probably a vanity production made by someone who "always wanted to make a movie" and wanted to have "chorus girls" in it. It makes "Ladies of the Chorus" (1948, with Marilyn Monroe playing the daughter of fellow stripper Adele Jergens) seem like Shakespeare.
