Best known for his direction of the 1950s TV serial featuring comic strip hero “Zorro”, Charles Lamont remains one of the most versatile American film directors.

After eleven years of acting, Lamont occupied the director’s chair and within three decades had over 200 films to his credit. Lamont’s versatility is evidenced by the wide range of films he directed, from gripping Westerns to nail-biting suspense thrillers. Below the Deadline, a vintage Hollywood classic from the 30s is yet another proof of Lamont’s immense talent at directing movies, which has preserved on DVD.

As a charming young lady, Molly Fitzgerald is not unaccustomed to theattention of young men. Yet, she is a little wary of the debonair, praise-heaping Flash Ackroyd who calls on “Abrams and Co. Jewelers” where she works. Her womanly instincts are soon justified. Just as Abrams is closing one the biggest diamond deals, armed men led by Flashbreak into the office and carry out the biggest heist known in the district.

Ingeniously planned, the theft has everybody convinced that it is detective Terry Mulvaney, Molly’s boyfriend, who in behind therobbery. Unable to prove his innocence, Terry escapes from the policeonly to get involved in a terrible train crash. Will Terry livethorough this tragedy to prove his innocence and save Molly from Flash’s evil clutches?

Running Time: 74 Minutes
MPAA Ratings: Approved

Set in the heart of New York’s business district, Below the Deadline has a cleverly crafted plot that is sure to thrill even the most cynical movie critics. This vintage Hollywood film takes you on a voyage, deep into the mind of a flashy, sleek-talking local conman who puts his knowledge of diamonds and human psyche to good use in pulling off one the most stunning diamond thefts. The crafty villain designs the whole episode so cleverly that the detective Terry Mulvaney is taken completely by surprise to find his name in the who dun-it columns oflocal dailies. A series of coincidences and lucky breaks finally lead the police to Flash and his gang. Along the way, you are treated to a whole set of great performances, tender romantic moments, subtle tongue-in-the-cheek humor and loads of breath taking suspense.

Don’t miss this Charles Lamont directed gem that will have you figuring out the end right from the outset.

"The mystery, the twists and turns and finally the outcome of the story is as good as it gets. You can compare this film to any of today’s con-man movies. It has all the trappings of a good plot well executed. If you love a who dun-it movie then go for this one, it is riveting."
Patrick Griffiths (Abbeville, Alabama)

"This is one complete movie, the plot is well crafted, the acting superb and convincing, the direction flawless. A total family entertainer, with all the ingredients of a good film and a pleasant time at home. Give usmore of these, A2ZCDS."
Jennifer Keeves (Cambridge, Maryland)
