Jimmy Keenan (Jackie Cooper) runs a news stand in NewYork by day and goes to law school at night, mean while keeping tabs on a pack of young hooligans who are constantly troubling the boys who work for him. Extortion-gathering hoods threaten him and his crippled pal Gimpy (Martin Spellman) When the boys get into a fight with the gang, they are hauled before a kindly judge, and Jimmy defends them persuasively.
Because he wants to pattern his life after the famous president, he has been given the nickname “Abe Lincoln of Ninth Avenue."
With Christmas just around the corner Jimmy is trying to cheer his handicapped friend into some Christmas spirit and plans a surprise for him. Alas his pop’s gambling ways spoil the surprise as he gambles away the money meant for the Christmas treat. But the thoughtful judge comes along and invites Jimmy and his boys over for a Christmas feast, where Anne (Marjorie Reynolds), the judge’s niece, is more than happy to meet all of them.
But alls not well for Jimmy, his racketeer wealthy brother Tap Keenan (Dick Purcell) is up to no good and is constantly in the news for all the wrong reasons. When the cops are onthe look out for him after he murders someone, he runs to Jimmy for help, while the latter refuses to give in. Eventually Jimmy’s little friend Gimpy gets shot in the bargain. This DVD set has the famous childstar Jackie Cooper playing the title role of Jimmy, a newsboy-by-day/law student-by-night.
