This episode begins with a plunge into New Zealand’s famed “ Ring of Fire”. We then explore a land of lush green pastures, active volcanoes and geysers, and some of the most interesting natural landscapes in the world. Lying in the thick of the “ Ring of Fire”, New Zealand, with its two large islands, is a side of the world truly worth our attention. Known as the “ City of Sails”, the capital Auckland is the most inhabited city on its Northern Island. Home to the most sailing ships in the world, Auckland is a bustling modern city, where every ethnicity in the region is represented. Right on the water, Auckland is just minutes away from some of the most pristine and exquisite natural sites. In the Bay of Plenty and White Island, we see New Zealand’s largest active volcano. Catch a glimpse of geysers, hot spring lakes, and intricate formations of dark orange clay. New Zealand is also the home of the world’s largest kiwi plantation, and is known for its 20 breeds of sheep. Finally, we drink in the breathtaking views of the Coromandel Peninsula, with its most beautiful beaches accessible only by foot. Protected by environmental groups, the beach houses are cathedrals of nature that are truly unique.
WORLD ODYSSEYS, presented by the Istituto Geografico De Agostini, is a resource rich in cultural and geographical information. We journey through great natural landscapes and see the places where art and history have left their marks. Through these adventures, we explore the history and archaeology of the fascinating cultures of these distant lands. We'll be in touch with the people living there. We'll hear the sounds of their lives and traditions, of their festivals and folklore. We'll discover their arts and crafts, and reveal their legends and secrets.
It took two years and several camera crews to complete the production of this outstanding series. For each episode, the Steadycam, the Wescam Helicopter camera stabilizing system, and other state-of-the-art equipment was employed to achieve the high production values required by the Instituto Geografico De Agostini. At the beginning of each sequence, WORLD ODYSSEYS helps the viewer become oriented to the region using maps and computer graphics. These elements, combined with truly unique and exciting editing create the arresting visual style of WORLD ODYSSEYS.
