Andes: Matte de Coca Brave the high elevation of Cusco and the old capital of the Inca empire, Tahuantinsuyo. In the rare atmosphere of this Andean city, visit the colonial churches built with stones taken from the old Inca temples and its charming squares, plus the most important temple of the Incas, Coricancha, which has Iglesia Santo Domingo built on top of it. Climb one of the surrounding hills and visit Sacsayhuaman, an old citadel and religious place overlooking the city, where the most important religious festival of the Incas, IntiRami is still held.
