Wowee, Maui! This week's episode of Laura McKenzie's Traveler finds daredevil Laura McKenzie on the 'Adventure Isle' of Hawaii! So if you're ready, let's explore Maui.
We start at the most popular Ka'anapali Beach. Next, we dry out with a bike ride down a volcano, Mt. Haleakala. Then it's on to the well preserved courthouse which used to be the customs house for the whaling and trading ships. It was here that the post master general lowered the Hawaiian flag and put up the United States flag when it was annexed to the U.S. in 1898.
Laura then treks to the quaint streets and picturesque buildings of old Lahaina town.
As the sun sets Laura finds entertainment and a way to learn about the history of Hawaii at the Maui Theater for Ulalena. This colorful performance of traditional and contemporary dance is a modern retelling of the story of Hawaii and its people. It is simply beautiful to watch.
We join Laura as she finds both a place to rest, the Plantation AND one of the best restaurants in Maui, which just happens to be located right on the premises. Gerard's is an integral part of the inn. After a fabulous meal and a little rest and relaxation, it's back to the beach for more island adventure.
Finally, Laura takes on some water adventure - whale watching, dolphin cruises, snorkeling trips, submarine rides and parasailing!
We learn firsthand that Maui is indeed a paradise when Laura brings us to The Garden of Eden. Here we see the amazing variety of native plants, exotic flowers, trees and birds from the South Pacific.
A beautiful - and perfect - place for a vacation!
