Andes: Conquistadors Travel to the Pacific Coast city of Arequipa, nicknamed La Ciudad Blanca because of the volcanic white stone used in the construction of the city's buildings. It was nicknamed Monasterio Misteriosa, for the mystery behind what really happened behind its walls. Founded as a monastery for the Spanish upper class, it has beautiful alleys and quarters. A stroll behind its surrounding walls is a real treat. Take a short visit to Lima, Peru's capital and go to interesting places like the Museum of Inquisition, the San Francisco monastery with its crypt containing hundreds of skulls and the cathedral, housing the tomb of Francisco Pizzaro, the adventurer that changed the history of the Inca Empire and all of South America.
