The impressive Dachstein Mountain Range is located in central Austria. Beyond the limestone rock of the Dachstein is a fascinating world that is invisible from the outside, the Dachstein Caves.
Those who discovered the first of these caves named it the Mammoth Cave, due to its large dimensions that have a total length of 60 kilometres. Research that is currently taking place within the heart of the mountain has not yet been completed, thus it is impossible to confirm the true total length of its various passageways.
The foaming water that flows in front of the Koppenbrüller Cave comes from a spring deep within its interior. It was once used as a hiding place and features several colorful myths and legends.
Due to its network of caves, the Dachstein Mountains are far more than just the typical karst covered mountains of the Austrian Alps. Its cave system continues to be a beautiful enigma. A veritable natural wonder of the world!
