In this region on the western coast of Corsica we visit the most fascinating fissured red granite cliffs and bizarrely shaped Pinnacles. Corsican folk music with its many influences and unusual range of traditional instruments is discussed. The sweet chestnut is the staple of this region. We visit the village of Piedicore and the Baroque Church of St. Peter for a play about the annual chestnut harvest. In the Castagnicola region little has changed since the time of Napoleon. We visit the Gariu Grazi, who demonstrates the art of basket weaving, an artisan industry which still thrives here. We watch a demonstration of his basket weaving method and visit the slopes where he obtains the branches for his work. Recipes include: Spinach and Cheese Balls, Chestnut Crepes and Bread Flan.
