Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city, helps visitors achieve a harmonious balance. Northern Thailand is of the most amazing places on the planet;it’s an ideal destination for travelers searching for an experience rich in tradition & culture and complete with modern comforts. Much like Bangkok to the south, Chiang Mai's open air markets are a big attraction for visitors. Laura takes us to Chiang Mai's famous "Night Bazaar,” where blocks and blocks of stalls line the street. Next, Laura introduces us to Chiang Mai’s wonderful series of Buddhist Temples. The holiest of these temples is Doi Suthep where, as legend declares, villagers placed a statue of Lord Buddha on an elephant's back and then let him roam free. The elephant and Buddha eventually stopped at the location where the temple now stands. When Laura visits the Maesa Elephant Camp, she isn't just meeting a majestic animal but an icon. "Mahout School" gives visitors a one day course in riding and steering atop these incredible creatures, with the opportunity to stay the night. Finally, join Laura as she ventures into Northern Thailand's unique hill tribes, still thriving today, untouched by much of modern life. The culture, the landscape, and the friendly people of Thailand make this trip worthwhile!
