Wild Carpathia: From the Mountains to the Sea showcases the stunning southern Carpathians starting at the majestic Iron Gates on the Serbian Border and the ancient Roman Spa resort of Baile Herculane. Writer and presenter Charlie Ottley explores the little known Cerna mountains finding historic working mills, and legendary rock formations. On our way across the roof of mountains we stop at a boutique winery and the stunning Cosia National Park with it's grottos and picturesque monasteries. Crossing Saxon Transylvania Charlie visits the birthplace of Vlad's the Impaler and meets Crown Princess Margarita at her ancestral family home of Peles Castle. Leaving the mountains behind we head back down to the Danube where it branches to form the largest wetland in Europe. Here we explore tiny fishing villages, fragile forests and labyrinthine waterways teeming with a unique array of birdlife. Along the way we will see why this vital ecosystem is under threat and what is being done to preserve it.
